UIC college of ED is teaming up with CivicLab (www.civiclab.us)–a new nonprofit in the West Loop dedicated to collaboration, innovation, and education for civic engagement–to offer a class on Saturdays in March for young people called MY PLACE (Media for Youth Participatory Learning and Civic Engagement).

MY PLACE is about telling stories that matter to young people with digital media and geospatial technologies. The goal is for young people to tell counter-narratives about places that are important to them using everyday technologies (e.g., video, audio, mapmaking software, GPS devices). These stories will be shared on the web with an eye towards effecting change in communities that matter to our youth.

We’ll meet on Saturdays from 10am to 3pm at CivicLab (114 N. Aberdeen St., Chicago, IL) from March 8-29 (four Saturdays) with lunch provided and transportation available for those who need it.

If you or your young people have any questions, email us atmyplace@civiclab.us or call 312-996-4669.

And if you anyone who is planning to attend, please have them RSVP at myplace@civiclab.us or call 312-996-4669.

SEE is a flyer with more information in both English and Spanish.

If you successfully complete this activity you will know how to change the objects for most Scratch projects.

To work on this project you will need to create an account on SCRATCH at http://scratch.mit.edu/

Then go to http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/10015916/ to get your starter file.

Remix and make your version of the arcade classic PONG!

Submission Guidelines.

1. Upload a link to your Pong Remix

2. Tell us what makes your game different.

Get inspired. See additional remixes here
